Solar Tax Incentives, Credits and Rebates
Utility Rebate programs TECO, Progress EnergyResidential Solar Water HeatingA solar water heater can cut a family's water-heating costs by up to 85 percent, according to the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC). As part of a five-year pilot program authorized by the Florida Public Service Commission, FPL is offering rebates of $1,000 for every new residential solar water heater. The rebate is available to all existing FPL residential customers with electric or gas water heating. The rebates are not available for new construction or PV systems that are already installed. Applicants must be current account holders of the premise where the solar photovoltaic system is being installed. Business Solar Water HeatingAccording to the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), a solar water heater can cut a business' water heating costs by 50 to 85 percent, while demonstrating your commitment to a cleaner environment. As part of a five-year pilot program authorized by the Florida Public Service Commission, FPL is offering business customers a rebate of up to $50,000 per site for installing new solar water heating systems. Customers with multiple locations can receive up to $150,000 per funding year. The rebate is available to all existing business customers with electric or gas water heating. Each premise is eligible for one rebate for the duration of the program. The rebates are not available for new construction or PV systems that are already installed. Federal GovernmentThe American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 extended many consumer tax incentives originally introduced in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT). Residences, businesses, utilities, and governments are eligible for tax credits. Consumers who install solar energy systems, including solar water heating and solar electric systems, can receive a 30% tax credit for systems placed in service before December 31, 2016; the previous tax credit cap no longer applies.
